Inside the skin
Every layer, understood.
With age, the dermis thins and loses collagen and elastin, the fat layer changes, and the surface begins to fold into lines.
LAYER 02 / 04
Epidermis
The thin outer layer you can see and touch. It renews itself roughly every month and contains the cells that give skin its colour.
Dermis
The strong middle layer. Collagen gives it firmness and elastin lets it spring back; it holds hair roots, glands, nerves and tiny blood vessels.
Hypodermis (fat layer)
Soft fat cells that cushion, insulate and give the face and body their contours. Volume here changes with age and weight.
Muscle
Beneath the fat lie muscles. In the face, their repeated movement contributes to expression lines over time.
