Lip Reduction
Removes tissue from the lips to decrease their size and achieve facial harmony.
What it is
Lip reduction is a surgical procedure that removes a strip of tissue from the inner side of the upper or lower lip to reduce its size. It aims to bring the lips into better proportion with the rest of the face.
Who it’s for
- Adults who feel their lips are too large or prominent
- People with uneven lips or one lip much fuller than the other
- Those with lip enlargement after previous filler or injury
- People in good general health with realistic expectations
How it’s done
-
Step 01
The procedure is usually done under local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation.
-
Step 02
The amount of tissue to remove is carefully marked on the inside of the lip.
-
Step 03
A strip of lining and tissue is removed along the inner lip.
-
Step 04
The wound is closed with stitches that are often dissolvable.
-
Step 05
Cold compresses and soft foods are usually advised in the first days.
Recovery time
Swelling is usually most noticeable in the first week and settles over a few weeks. Many people return to work within about a week. Your surgeon will advise based on your assessment.
Results
The lips may look smaller and more balanced once swelling settles, with the final shape usually clear after a few months.
Results vary from person to person.
